The Northern Lights could be seen from around Stroud

The northern lights could be seen from Horsley near Stroud on Monday evening. Not a kaleidoscope of colour, mostly just a green hue.

Presumably they could be seen from anywhere around Stroud with a good northerly view and not too much light pollution.

This was surprising as it was pouring with rain at around 6pm!

The aurora was due to a severe geomagnetic storm taking place on the sun at the moment, 19th January 2026 and was categorised as G4, severe which has the capacity to affect satellite communications.
