Nailsworth has been somewhat cut off from the world for the last month as George Street (next to Morrisons) had to be closed when a gas pipe was ruptured during resurfacing work.
The only access was by shanks’ pony which was made difficult by the narrow pavement and lots of roadworks signs.
The damage was hardly surprising as the excavation shows the pipe was very close to the road surface, presumably due to part of the street being a low bridge over the stream.
The two separate pipes connecting to the large one seen above have been replaced with three slightly smaller pipes, presumably to reduce their height.
The photo below shows the reopened and resurfaced road. White lines have since been added. To the left of the tree is a seating area where you can sit with a coffee from Hobbs and watch the world go by.
